A story about trolls, bullies and other creatures we shouldn't talk about....
I get my fair share of aggressive feedback and negative comments. My music sucks, my content sucks and I suck. Online there is no end to what people can say, hiding behind a nickname.
I also get tons of positive feedback. For every hater out there will always be another loving it. Or TEN more. The spectrum always has two outer ends.
Another thing I've also experienced is that it's not necessarily my music they hate. They might be envious, they might dislike how I present myself, how I talk, how I always fight the bullies away from my comments section, or how I'm not afraid to disagree.
One type of hate mail I get on a semi regular basis ( I know, it's totally bonkers) is from people hating me because I'm German. Which I'm not, but they think I am. They hate Germans because of WW2 and as such they think that every German should suffer their wrath. Nutcases are everywhere. It doesn't even matter to them when I say I'm actually Norwegian. Yes, I reply back. They don't believe that I'm not German.
Some YouTubers are very afraid of taking on bullies or engage in disagreements. I never shy away from that. Bullies and trolls will always be my arch enemies and as such I will always shoot them down. Verbally.
What about art itself?
When you put your art out there; music, videos, paintings, words or whatever, you RISK being ridiculed, you RISK being mocked and you RISK getting bullied.
You know what? That's actually a positive sign. You've MEANT something to people.
Art is meant to stir up emotions. Good or bad. It's meant to make people think and it's meant to mean something. Even this video title is meant to stir up emotions. I bet some will judge the video on the title alone and think I'm actually talking about THEM.
I'd rather have 10 people intensely hating what I do than 100 not caring at all about what I do.
My music and lyrics have always meant to take people on a journey. It's always something from my own life. Maybe a situation I've experienced or something I've seen. At the same time I often use words or paint a picture to provoke. I want people to FEEL something listening to my music and lyrics and sometimes it might provoke, at other times it might make you feel at ease. It's all part of the journey.
