There's a growing idea online that you need to understand every technical and scientific detail of your gear to be a good engineer. I heard a mastering engineer on YouTube claim the biggest names in mastering don't really know what they're doing because they can't explain the digital technicalities behind their tools.
That's nonsense. You don't have to be able to build the car to drive it fast. The same is true for music.
Most of the great engineers I've met work entirely off ear and off feel. They're not running scientific calculations in their heads. They turn knobs and make things sound great.
Don't let anyone tell you that you need to be a physics teacher to get great sound. Use your ears. Use your feeling.
