“Taiko” means “drum” in Japanese, and the act of performing taiko in a group — “kumi-daiko” — is exemplified by Denver Taiko. The local nonprofit — founded in 1976 — is the fourth-oldest taiko group in the nation, and the first of its kind outside of California (largely considered the birthplace of the American taiko movement). Denver Taiko is now one of dozens of taiko groups across the country.
