When I think back to my earliest childhood memories, one of my most cherished is the comfort of my mother's stories as I fell asleep.
As the child of deaf parents, stories were a blend of words and sign language. I found an infinite comfort in the pairing of the sound and motions.
I remember fighting the heaviness of my eyelids as slumber overcame me. Even now, this memory brings the warmth and weight of a heavy blanket.
