RAF Clifton was used in the war for Mustangs and Halifaxes. After the war all the Halifaxes flew in here to be scrapped. Residents complained they could see an 80 metre high pile of Halifax hulls for miles around. Now there's only 200 metres of the runway left, and that's threatened by Ring Road dualling and housing projects.

Bootham Hospital has also been retired, it was one of many former mental hospitals in York (Why so many?) But it has an excellent park to fly from and get views of the Minster.
