The town of Ronda, Andalusia is built on top of a slab of rock, bordering a 100 metre cliff face over the valley. This piece of rock was emplaced about 20 million years ago when Iberia was separating from Africa - at the reopening of the Mediterranean Sea. There is a paper in Tectonics magazine that discusses the latest investigations into its origin. The paper is titled: "Deformation and Exhumation of the Ronda Peridotite (Spain).
