I saw Yoa for the first time when she opened for Novo Amor in Paris, in 2022. I was instantly mesmerized by both her music and her performance. She had this confidence as she was solo on stage, just her and her music, dancing and hypnotizing the whole crowd. Her lyrics are so meaningful. “Je t’embrasse” is a testament on gender roles, women emancipation and deconstructing the societal image and pressure on women. It has consistently been in my most played songs of the year. I’ve briefly chatted with her and she has shared her influences from FKA Twigs. Can you hear it too?
