The forested Northern Region of Okinawa, known as the Yanbaru, is home to a myriad of incredible and sometimes dangerous wildlife. I recently traveled to the region with the goal of filming with an iPhone 6S Plus to show folks that smart device imaging is indeed a viable option in the realm of wildlife films.
The main thing is to have a desire to share what nature gives you. Smart devices, and indeed the cameras they house are becoming stronger and stronger, delivering up to 4K video resolution. Granted they are very small sensors so they undergo a lot of compression in comparison to cinematic 4k cameras but even so, they give you an option to get out there and film.
The only sequences here where I used a Go pro were the underwater segments and the sequence for the snake strike. Beyond that I was using an iPhone6S Plus fitted into an iOgrapher casing. For wider shots I was using the Moondog Labs 1.33x Anamorphic Adapter.
For the time-lapse segments I used Lapse It iOS App and edited that using Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom and LRTimelapse Pro. You can find additional tutorials here on my YouTube about that workflow.
