...potty during (or before) breastfeeding (and yes, same with bottle feeding)!

Here’s how to handle pottying while breastfeeding your baby:

STEP 1: Keep a small potty within arm’s reach. (I love the newborn top hat potty)
STEP 2: Watch for signs like squirming, unlatching, or fussing.
STEP 3: If baby signals, pause feeding and offer the potty.

STEP 4: you can either feed over a waterproof pad and just potty while still nursing (some stay unlatched, some like to stay latched)

or

keep the top hat potty between your thighs or within arms’ reach
(it’s often helpful if feeding diaper-free or bottomless, but not required!)

STEP 5: hold baby in position gently by the thighs, her back and head supported by your torso, over the pad or potty, latched or unlatched
STEP 6: cue along “psss” to help baby go and build sound association
STEP 7: If baby goes, great! If not, continue with the feed and try again if you get an obvious sign
STEP 8: clean up is usually not needed if you’re doing it in the potty with an EBF baby…so just go back to feeding when baby is done.
STEP 9: Some babies like to potty before feeding instead. Try that next time!

⭐️and just remember popping off the breast is usually a sign they need to go!!⭐️so if they do it again, offer
STEP 10: if your baby primarily poops during feeding, feed over the top hat and be ready! Cue along with a gentle grunt “mm mm” to build sound associations .
And remember they won’t do this at all anymore in a few short weeks ;)
