Stop-Motion Transformation of XTransbots MX-22 Commander Stack. Just because you can do a thing doesn’t mean you should do a thing. This thing is pretty bonkers. Here is a list of steps that are particularly troublesome, in no particular order:
-- The waist - still not positive how it locks in, but it does.
-- Extending the arms - it goes two solid clicks - be sure to hold the two parts firmly as close to the slide as possible to avoid damage. (In other words, holding him by the leg while you pull that slide joint out on the arm would be a bad idea)
-- Flipping the arms up - something has a tendency to get in the way so it can take some fiddling to get the arms to nest up inside themselves properly.
-- Popping the feet loose - they lock to those side panels pretty solidly. Use a spudger.
-- Folding the feet for truck mode - there is a spring-loaded insert that gets pushed out of the way on top of the foot. Be sure the feet are square with the truck uprights and get the insert going by pushing in the part of the foot closest to the ankle first. Watch those little red flaps (that fill in the back of the truck bed) to make sure they clear.
-- Back wheels for truck mode - the crossbar that folds out can be tricky and definitely requires a tool to get it to bend the right way to get it extracted. Those half-moon tracks on each side do have a little tab that squares them on the truck front. Crazy how they went to all that trouble so the truck could still articulate ever so slightly.

Production Note: Pretty tricky. Because it’s not mine, I limited myself to four practice transformations before doing the shoot.

If you want to follow along, I recommend skipping to the speed run and using your , and . keyboard keys to advance by single frames. Every step of the transformation is documented in the frames of the video, in what I consider to be the best sequence. With minimal rubbing and minimal parts-parking.
