It's another day and another installment of video game layoffs. Xbox is potentially laying off studios like Compulsion Games, Double Fine, and Ninja Theory. Reports say that they weren't being laid off. They were just being negotiated to be spun off to be bought by other buyers. The fact that it's happening almost every year or even half a year… oh my God. I just took a screenshot of this while I'm recording this. Never change, EA. Never change.
The one thing that I can say for sure that has nothing to do with this conversation at all is progressive politics.

I have no idea how DEI and consultation firms fit into this conversation. This is a widespread industry issue that is more related with corporate greed than progressive politics. I also don't like progressive politics either, but I think blaming DEI and consultation firms is just nothing but confirmation bias.
A lot of people I see online are going, "See? DEI is ruining gaming! Look at these laid off developers!" No. Corporations are ruining gaming. Greed is ruining gaming. If you point your finger on the progressives for ruining gaming, that's your political bias speaking. That's you being a political activist, and I am not interested with hearing that. If anything, I want you to get out of gaming so that you don't poison this discourse with pointless politics.
The more we blame politics, the less we blame the actual corporations that are responsible for causing those layoffs. They are not motivated by progressive ideology. They are motivated by money. Plain and simple. Less developers, less money to spend on them and more money to spend on padding out the executive's bottom line and getting them another yacht, but sure. Blame diversity.
By the way, they don't have DEI initiatives because they want to be progressive. They do that because it looks good for investors. That's why they have ESG. It's to please investors. It all leads back to making money. It's not about actually being progressive. It's about faking progressivism to please investors to take their money from their pocket and put it in these corporations' pocket. It all leads back to money. It all leads back to greed, not politics.
