Before you start, youโre going to need the following items;
*A measuring device with millimeter increments
*A piece of corrugated cardboard at least 15 x 30 cm
*And, a flat and firm surface to sit on
Taking your measurement is a breeze.
You just need to find a position that puts your weight through your sitbones so that when you sit on the cardboard, it leaves a clear impression.
Elevating your legs so that your knees are higher than your hips, and your thighs are at around 40 degrees should do the trick.
A wooden or concrete staircase works great for this because you can sit a few steps up, and bring your feet up to find the right position.
If youโre using a bench then just find a box or something similar to put your feet on.
Iโd recommend making sure youโve got the setup dialled before going straight for the cardboard - especially if youโve only got one piece.
When youโre happy with the position, place the cardboard near the edge, and carefully sit on it ensuring your sitbones are making good contact.
For the best results, you want to stay seated for at least 30 seconds.
You can even rock side to side slightly to help push your sitbones into the cardboard.
When you stand back up, you should see two depressions left in the cardboard.
The goal is to measure between the centre points of each depression, and the easiest way to do that is to carefully mark the centrepoints before grabbing the measuring device.
The reading should be in millimeters, and will most likely be between 80mm and 165mm.
I like to repeat the process a few times to make sure Iโm getting consistent results.
Once youโre happy with your measurement, youโre ready to start shopping.
