Dystopia no longer feels imagined as it shadows the emotional and ecological fault lines of the present. Drawing on the intimate, fragile world of her novel, Under Water, Tara Menon explores how grief, memory, and coming-of-age unfold against catastrophe. Jorge Volpi is one of the most prolific and award-winning authors in Mexican literature. His work reveals a keen interest in the world of science and its implications, as well as in politics and contemporary thought. In conversation with María Ramos de Castro, they reflect on how stories of rupture might also hold the possibility of repair.

Tara Menon is an Assistant Professor in the Department of English at Harvard University. Her writing has appeared in the New York Times Book Review, Nation, Paris Review, and Public Books, where she co-edits the Literary Fiction section.

Jorge Volpi is the author of fifteen novels, including In Search of Klingsor, which received the Premio Biblioteca Breve, and A Criminal Novel, which later inspired a Netflix series of the same name, as well as several essays, such as The Invention of All Things: A History of Fiction. He is the recipient of the José Donoso Prize and the Order of Isabella, and is a Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters in France. His books have been translated into thirty languages. This year, he will be publishing the essay, Alien Invasion: The False Migration Problem, as well as the novel, The Republic.

María Ramos de Castro is a television presenter and writer, currently directing and hosting Clap on Castilla y León Televisión. She has worked on productions for Prime Video, and collaborates as a moderator and host at several major cultural events.
