Singapore is known for being expensive, but I wasn't expecting to find a barcade charging prices like this. At Level Up, a gaming bar in Singapore, a single pint of beer costs around $16 - one of the most expensive arcade bar drinks I've ever encountered.

Before entering, drinks have to stay outside and bags are checked before you enter the gaming area. Once inside, however, Level Up offers a very different arcade experience from traditional game centres.

This is much more of a social barcade than a hardcore arcade. The selection focuses on multiplayer and casual games, with machines like **Bishi Bashi**, **Mario Kart Arcade GP**, pinball, and various party-style arcade games. There are also **MAME cabinets** loaded with classic titles including **Metal Slug**, **Street Fighter**, **The King of Fighters**, and other arcade favourites.

For rhythm game fans, there is also a **Pump It Up** machine, although like many barcade dance machines, the condition reflects the environment. With drinks, crowds, and casual players, keeping a dance machine perfectly maintained in a bar setting is always a challenge.

Level Up is an interesting example of how arcades have evolved into entertainment venues rather than traditional gaming centres. It combines nightlife, drinks, and arcade gaming into one experience - but at Singapore prices.
