"World in Conflict" from the year 2007 and its expansion "Soviet Assault" from 2009 are still among the best real-time strategy/tactics games of the last few decades. The graphics were spectacular at the time and still look good. The story is remarkably gripping and character-driven for a game of this kind. The Soviet Assault expansion has been seamlessly integrated into the storyline in the Complete Edition of the game. About the plot: In late 1989, the Cold War turns hot as a desperate Soviet Union launches a surprise invasion of Western Europe and the American Pacific Northwest. Cut off from immediate reinforcements, Colonel Jeremiah Sawyer, along with officers Mark Bannon and James Webb, must organize a desperate delay-and-retreat defense on home soil to stem the tide of the Red Army.
Integrated with the Soviet Assault expansion, the narrative unfolds from both sides of the frontline. Follow Soviet commander Colonel Vladimir Orlovsky and the fiery Captain Malashenko as internal political friction and the brutal reality of war test their devotion to the Motherland.
