Happy #WorldFishMigrationDay! 🌍🐟 This year’s theme is “Free Flow,” and we’re proud to showcase our recent efforts in the Columbia–Pacific Northwest Region. This month, we successfully tagged and released thousands of young salmon from Cle Elum Lake through the Cle Elum Dam Helix Passage System in Washington. Hatchery-raised coho and wild caught salmon were captured using Oneida nets in Cle Elum Lake. This project tests the newly built system and allows us to compare survival rates of fish released below the dam.

Thanks to the teamwork of the Yakama Nation, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Washington State Department of Ecology, U.S. Geological Survey, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, and the Yakima Basin Joint Board, we’re making strides in fish conservation. 👏 Together, we will monitor the fish as they migrate down the Yakima River to the Pacific Ocean. 🌊

Through collaboration, we’re ensuring the survival of fish species for generations to come. Let’s continue to find solutions to restore fish migration and recover healthy rivers! Check out this video highlighting all the great work.
