Abstract: You might have dipped your toes into Shiny and even created your first “Hello World!” app. But when conversations turn to scoping, reactives, observers, and modules, you might feel a little bit lost. Fear not! This workshop is here to bring you up to speed on these concepts, leaving you with a blueprint for building a solid foundation for your Shiny app.
What to Expect:
Understand Reactivity: There’s no interactivity without reactivity. We’ll break down the concepts of reactivity in a way that will help you to truly understand what you need to use when, ensuring you leave with the power to make your apps come to life.
Build Shiny Modules: Modules are not an advanced Shiny topic, and we’ll show that modules are actually not that different from simple R functions. We’ll guide you through the concept of modules, making your app-building process more organized, efficient, and, dare we say, enjoyable!
Effortless UI: Although the primary focus of this workshop revolves around the back-end aspects of a Shiny application, you’ll also learn some quick tip and tricks to effortlessly elevate the visual appeal of your app. Nobody wants to leave a workshop with an awful looking app right? ;)
Interactive and Hands-On: The workshop is designed for you to acquire practical skills that you can apply immediately. It’s about diving into the concepts firsthand by actively participating and collaborating with fellow workshop participants.
Requirements for Participants:
Skill level: This workshop is designed for beginners, requiring no prior Shiny knowledge. If you have some basics under your belt and crave a deeper understanding of reactivity and modular design, you’re also in the right place.
R / RStudio / Shiny: Learning by doing is the best way to go. Ensure you have R and RStudio installed. Prefer an other IDE? No problem- but just be aware that we will be using RStudio in the demonstrations. Don’t forget to install the Shiny package if you haven’t already and ensure you’re working with at least version 1.7.
Sense of Fun: Expect a laid-back atmosphere, filled with interactive exercises and a supportive learning environment. We’re here to have fun!
