In March 2020 I scored a Poplar tree which was already cut down in one meter pieces. In total I brought three or four pieces home. One of them was turned into a Large Planter, with the remaining part cut into bowl blanks straight away. The rest was left to dry as I found it, in the garden with just a piece of board on top to protect them from most of the rain. This doesn't work well with Poplar, I should have (tried to) removed the bark earlier because the bark keeps the moisture locked in and this encourages decay. In September I reorganized my woodpile and cut the remaining wood into blanks because I found that it wasn't drying all too well. It was cracking though. Here I'm rough turning one of these blanks to see if that is a better way to preserve the wood. Also testing a new face plate and a my new hollowing tool. Wet Poplar is very stringy and I had quite a battle with this piece. Next time I will cut off the corners again!
