Women play a critical yet largely invisible role in the small-scale fisheries (SSF) sector. Yet, they occupy close to 50% of the workforce mainly within the pre- and post-harvesting phases that involves net mending, fish cleaning and processing, marketing, selling and trading. The Nature Conservancy (TNC) together with local partners in Kenya and Tanzania are elevating women’s voices in the fisheries sector, by highlighting their roles, the critical challenges they face, and what they envision for the future. We want women, men and youth to work together to ensure they all benefit from the fishing industry.
