Winter Stealth Camping in a Blizzard -17º in Penetanguishene

Winter stealth camping in a Canadian snowstorm sounded like an exciting adventure—until my minivan froze shut and the roads turned into solid ice!
In this winter van camping adventure, I take R2, my stealth camper minivan, north toward Midland and Penetanguishene, Ontario, to experience some intense lake-effect snow. With two Jackery power stations, an electric blanket, emergency food, water, cooking equipment and extra supplies, I’m prepared to survive overnight if the approaching storm gets worse.
Before settling into my stealth camping location, I explore downtown Midland and Penetanguishene while scouting for a safe place to park. Dinner takes me to the World Famous Dock Lunch, a local restaurant serving the community since 1957. I try their crispy two-piece fish and chips, coleslaw, garlic bread and a ridiculously sweet s’mores butter tart!
After finding a parking lot near Foodland and Tim Hortons, I install my stealth window covers, organize my winter survival gear and settle in as the temperature drops. The snowplows arrive around 3:00 a.m., and by morning it is approximately -17°C with the wind chill. Even worse, the freezing rain and snow have completely frozen one of my minivan doors shut!
The adventure continues when I attempt to drive through Penetanguishene on dangerously icy hills. Even with snow tires, R2 struggles for traction. Eventually, I reach Captain Ken’s Diner for a hot Canadian breakfast featuring eggs, peameal bacon, home fries, toast and coffee.
