Gaiters are important when you go winter camping in areas with a lot of snow they can mean the difference between comfort and cold feet... From my personal experience I will never buy a gaiter with a zipper on it...I took them out one time and the cold froze the cheap zipper metal enough that it became brittle and broke right off when I went to unzip them. A more solid design is to buy gaiters that use a Velcro closing system. These ones in the video with the velcro system are from "OUTDOOR RESEARCH".
