About Gail Tverberg
Gail Tverberg has had two different careers over the years. Her first career was in the insurance industry, as an actuary. There, she used her mathematical background (MS, University of Illinois, Chicago) and her actuarial training (Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society) to solve insurance related problems. Some of her work involved setting rates and making forecasts for “long tail” lines of business, such as medical malpractice and workers compensation.
While working in the insurance field, Ms.Tverberg became aware of how poorly some insurance companies fared during the 1973-1974 oil price spike. She also became aware that there are limits to the easily ex-tractable resources in a finite world. Many of the assumptions that forecasters use (such as interest rates, inflation rates, and economic growth rates) can be expected to change, as the world reaches resource limits.
Ms. Tverberg writes new articles about every three weeks on OurFiniteWorld.com. Her audience tends to be highly educated; about 60% of the audience resides outside of the United States. The coronavirus has cut back on her international speaking. For example, her next conference speaking engagement in Italy will be over ZOOM, rather than requiring in-person travel.
