Did you find a hurt bird with a broken wing, that you could not catch? Perhaps it was a Killdeer mother bird, and you were near her babies or eggs.
This mother is (as of 5/23/2020) nesting on an area of rocks near the tennis courts at a school. The tennis courts have not been used due to a stay-at-home order and long duration school closure.
