SpaceX plans to launch up to a million satellites into low Earth orbit. The filing barely mentions the Kessler effect — the threshold at which orbital density gets so high that a single collision triggers a cascading chain reaction of debris. Such a cascade could knock out global communications and, by current science, be irreversible, leaving a debris field that lasts for centuries. The ecological risk almost nobody is talking about.
