The final leg of our epic journey across the wilds of Sweden and Norway sees us battling on ever downwards towards the massive lake Femunden, the river refusing to give in and make our lives any easier. More long portages, more slippery, stumbling rapids - too shallow to run. Wading out into the river to release the boats as they snag up on the rocks, everything soaked, completely exhausted and eventually, the river gets its prize - Andy overturns and spills into the fast flowing water.
These last two days were like a message from the Røa, a reminder of who is boss as it sent us on our way out of the Femundsmarka. And with huge smiles, bags of pride, a good dose of smugness and an enormous sense of achievement, we were dumped out of the river system and into the enormity of a lake that seemed like a sea.
