Summer solstice, will I be able to read the language on the welcome mat in front of death’s door? Will I feel beneath my feet the cushion of the welcome as I step forward? Maybe writing is my way to slow time down so I can make time thrown, like the Milky Way – across a page, or screen. My DNA says I’m 100% star. I might get some Chromium yet out of a single moment, just as blues and greens, in my wife’s eyes, also form in wood when it’s petrified underground, along with carbon and oxides of iron. And once upon a time that petrified wood stored sunlight, before it turned into a stone that blossomed colors of a bursting galaxy. Look it up if you don’t believe me. If you dont believe me, bury these words in your very heart, and see what happens.

— No Breaking Point — There I was late at night listening to someone talk about W.B. Yeats’s poem “The Lake Isle of Innisfree” and I was thinking it was an OK talk, I’ll make a playlist for everyone and include it. I’ll make a few playlists. Make a music playlist everyone’s been waiting for. But at some point I thought about how I understood the poem in a way that this guy couldn’t explain, either. And before I knew it, I was transported, in my mind, back to a time before there were any innernets and I was an old man, and I knew there was a place for me, in her heart, I heard it always, like the low sounds of the lake water lapping, and I knew how fast thoughts traveled, and that some of them never stop, even if you want them to, and this was so great a feeling that I wanted to cry. What was funny: I laughed. And I laughed. And I laughed so hard that I cried.

THE PULL - The old man remembered, soon after he married his wife, he noticed she had a number of scars on her back, her arms and legs. She knew how to fight, as her village had also repelled many invasions, but these were not wounds inflicted by a weapon.
They were sitting by a fire outside one night, and the good-smelling smoke felt like its own kind of shelter, the way it went up like milk in water, towards the stars. He said, “Where did you get these marks on your body?”
She said, “Once, when I was a young girl, there was a fierce storm. A girl from our village got swept up by the sea, and the storm carried her over to some jagged rocks. Everyone in the village had to watch as she was being thrown like a rag-doll as the storm picked up. I wasn’t much taller than the head of grown sheep at the time. I couldn’t bear it. I didn’t know how to swim very well, and I was very scared, but I jumped into the sea. My father and mother tried to stop me, but I disobeyed them. The pull of the sea was so strong, I barely had any time before I found myself in a bad situation. I made my way to the girl somehow. She was screaming, and thrashing, and thus she was having a hard time staying above the water. I grabbed her, and held her close, and told her, ‘Stop screaming. Im here.’ She looked at me and stopped crying straight away. Every time a wave crashed against us, I sheltered her, and it was my body that slammed against the rocks. I took a great deal of punishment from the sea that day. The storm kept on for some time. I don’t know how many hours passed. I taught her how to float without trying. We floated. I taught her that the cold becomes an even temperature the longer you stay in it. Our blood heated up the sea. Then, after some time - as soon as the storm died down a bit - some brave fishermen were able to throw out a long line and haul us in.”
“Brave fishermen? he said to his wife as he stoked the fire, sounds like you were the brave one.”
“I was not brave. I pretended to be brave.”
“Pretending to be brave and being brave are the same if the actions lead to greater good.”
Many years later, when his beard had first showed signs of white, she told him that there was no other girl out there at sea, only her. “I did not mean to deceive you, she said. I realize now, I was drowning, and it was as if sent myself out there, to bring myself back.”
And now, years after that conversation, he was all by himself on a road that seemed only to lengthen every day, and the old man sensed the movement of ravens, herds, packs, a symmetry of chaos, out there, shifting in the open shuddering. Indeed, the way back to his wife felt like a broken force that held itself together.

One Foot in Front of the Other - Indeed, trying to get back to his wife all this time – and what with the bad dreams he’d just had about Romans getting there first – the old man has lost some sleep: his fighting is sloppy and unfocused. But he’s grumpy enough to survive.
He can sense in his bones that a new season has arrived. He often wonders, encountering warriors of increasing speed and skill, if he should call back to the spirits who once told him how much life he had left in him, how much life left in his foes, how much breath…
In fact the man has to call on the spirits briefly when he encounters a very skilled pair of Samurai who are honorable but wish to fight their equals simultaneously in an all-out brawl of sorts.
They caught the old man off guard at first, but out of the blue a friendly Raider (whom the old man recognized) came to his side in battle.
“When you don’t sleep well, you are very grumpy!” Mrs. Highlander used to say to him all the time. Those days seem like so long ago, the old man thinks. And she was right of course. At times like this he doesnt say much, he doesnt laugh, and when met by foes on the road, hes quick to accept an invitation to fight to the death.

And as a sidenote, the Warden and Orochi in this video did not ragequit (in fact the last time I played the Warden he beat me with clever guard breaks), and the brawlers at the end of the video are also good players, we went back and forth with their Kensei and Nobushi and afterwards one of them used Berserker and Shaman and beat us! I also want to make clear that in no way were they ganking they were playing a good, clean all-out brawl! Thats all I wanted to add.

GOING SANE - Long ago, in the Springtime of their marriage, many villagers wondered how they always seemed content together. Some asked what their secret was. Their great secret was that they never kept secrets. There was never any doubt between them about loyalty, but moreover, they could share their most troubled thoughts with each other - their kindness was like a home within a home. “Look at you,” she told him one day when he’d returned from battle, “blood on your face blood on your hands. Sit down.”
“I fight some who are mad,” he said, taking a seat by the fire, “and I fear that, in fighting them over and over, their madness becomes mine. I dragged a Berserker down with my Claymore. That was moments ago. Now I’m back here with you. The Berserker fought me in a land far away. I don’t know how I got there, my Love. I don’t know how I got back from the place of blood whence I came. Here you and I. We are talking. I feel calm again. What is happening?”
She said, “Let us go outside. I have something to show you.”
They walked through some trees, and some of the trees said hello with a strange glow as it would soon become night. Then, when there was a little clearing, his wife stopped. With her hands she began digging at the dirt on the ground. He bent down and began digging with her. They dug. “Just a little more,” she said. “Careful, now, we do not want to ruin it.”
She reached down and pulled up a scroll. It was rolled and sealed with wax. She shook the dirt from it and it looked like brand new parchment.
“My father gave this to me. He said the ancient Bards speak to each other at all times and in this scroll are the words of a Bard from the future who spoke to him. My father wrote down what he heard. I have not read this. He made me promise to give this scroll to you, and he asked that you read it aloud to me. So that we may live forever.”
With the remaining light he opened the scroll and read it to his wife:
