So many people say they want to write a book, but very few ever actually start, let alone finish one. A lot of the reason for that boils down to motivation. Wanting to write is a lot different than actually taking the time and effort to do so, and most people don't realize the work that actually goes into creating a 40,000-50,000+ word novel. Having an idea is a great place to start, but you have to be willing to cut out other things you might want to do, like watching Netflix or going out with friends, and most people just don't have the drive or will to do that.
This is honestly more about undoing the concept that writing is easy that seems to permeate our society. I've personally come up against this notion on a couple of occasions, but most people seem to quiet down about it when I ask them how many books they've written. You wouldn't tell a mechanic, pilot or others in more "traditional" industries that their job was easy, so think twice before saying it to a published author.
