There is a distinction Eckhart Tolle makes here that almost nobody makes, and it is worth hearing. He is describing what happens when the drama stops. Couples who notice they have not argued in months and start to wonder whether the relationship is still alive. People who realise they have not been in emotional pain for a long time and find that unsettling rather than welcome. To the ego, drama is nourishment. It thrives on being right while somebody else is wrong, and without an opponent it starts to ask what is even left. Then he adds the caveat. It could also be that you have not become free at all. It could be that you have deadened yourself to emotional pain because you no longer want to feel it. That is a different matter entirely, and it does not last. Sooner or later, what was pushed down comes back up. Underneath both is the same thing. Conditioning. The mental and emotional patterns you have carried since childhood that quietly determine how you experience everything. You can travel to another country, leave every familiar thing behind, arrive somewhere entirely new, and the question remains how much of the old self came with you. If small things make you angry at home, small things will find you here. The way out is not managing the situation. It is meeting it from a different state of consciousness, and noticing that the reaction, not the event, is what turns a difficulty into drama. Eckhart goes much further into this in the full session. Join Eckhart Tolle Now to watch. 👇
