You know the term lucid dreaming. You are asleep, you are dreaming, and at some point you realise you are dreaming while it is still happening. Awareness arrives inside the dream, and usually the dream ends shortly afterwards, because the two cannot really coexist. Eckhart Tolle mentions it and then makes a suggestion. By all means experiment with lucid dreaming if you like. But there is a far better practice, and he calls it lucid living. Because the same thing is available while you are awake. Most of the time, he says, something else is running the show. There is a stream of thinking, and a person assembled out of it, and it speaks through you, acts through you, reacts through you. His phrasing is hard to forget. Something is living in you, pretending to be you. Challenge it and watch how quickly it becomes defensive, because it feels threatened easily. The moment you notice that happening, something has changed. You are aware of the dream while you are in it. That noticing is not a small thing. It is the beginning. He is also honest about the difficulty. It is far easier to see all this in other people than in yourself, and there is a well-worn trap of becoming the one person who notices everyone else's unconsciousness. Then there is a further stage. When the thinking subsides, what remains is simply lucid consciousness, a plain sense of presence. And over time, your capacity to stay there without slipping back grows stronger. Eckhart goes much further into this in the full session. Join Eckhart Tolle Now to watch. 👇
