We know that women are under-represented in so many areas of physics. Fewer still continue with physics in industry like I do.
I knew my colleague Nassia deserved recognition for her brilliant work but was never going to put herself forward. And that’s why last year I decided to nominate her for the Denis Gabor Medal and Prize – and she won.
Women winning awards not only recognises their work but through representation encourages others to believe they can succeed also – and I think that’s really important.
That’s why we need to celebrate and highlight the achievements of women who do work in physics – and why I’d encourage you to think about talented female physicists in your area and consider nominating them for an IOP Award this year.
