For people living with dementia or caring for someone with dementia, research cannot happen fast enough. Our research team is dedicated to finding the answers to dementia.
At the Clem Jones Centre for Ageing Dementia Research within the Queensland Brain Institute (QBI), we are expanding knowledge about the ageing brain and its resilience, developing new therapies for dementia and helping to improve diagnosis.
The Centre’s Director, Professor Jürgen Götz, is pioneering ultrasound as a potential therapy for Alzheimer’s disease (the most common form of dementia) and a way to deliver existing drugs more effectively. Professor Gail Robinson’s research focuses on the early and accurate diagnosis of dementia using new tools. While Dr Sean Coakley uses C.elegans (worms) to uncover the mechanisms that control how neurons develop, maintain their structure and repair in this model system. In the future, we will apply this knowledge to help people living with dementia.
