President Trump’s executive order could dramatically change how mail-in ballots are handled ahead of the midterms. But Michael Smerconish argues there’s an even bigger problem than the legal fight: the government may not actually be capable of carrying it out.
The plan depends on identifying eligible voters through federal citizenship records — but no comprehensive national citizenship list exists. With ballots going out soon, Michael explains why trying to build one from incompatible and sometimes inaccurate government databases could become a “train wreck in slow motion.”
