Why Thailand's School Shooting Emergency Alert Was Silent

Officials have explained why the emergency Cell Broadcast message sent during the Nonthaburi school shooting arrived without the usual warning sound. Authorities feared an audible alarm could have exposed the location of students and teachers hiding from the gunman. The message was instead silently delivered to phones within approximately five kilometres of the school, warning people to avoid the area. Officials say alert settings can be adjusted depending on the nature of each emergency.
