Starting with the Last Jedi, Star Wars toys experienced a massive drop-off in toy and merchandise sales. Including a lack of attendance at the Galaxy's Edge amusement park. Considering that Star Wars was once the greatest merchandising phenomenon in entertainment history, and it was back with a huge marketing push, it must've taken something major for this to happen. I think that changes and confusion in the basic formula of the Star Wars story caused this to happen. So let's talk about that, and what makes people actually buy toys, merchandise, and theme park tickets.
