History Abridged with Jack Rackam | Why Rome had only 7 Kings @JackRackam | Uploaded August 2022 | Updated October 2024, 2 hours ago.
Lucius Tarquinus Superbus, Tarquin for short, is the reason Rome had only seven kings. After murdering his father-in-law, the previous king, he killed any senators he thought for some strange reason might not be loyal to him, and ruled as a tyrant. The final straw came when the king’s son threatened to kill a woman named Lucretia if he couldn’t have, uh, shall we say, a charming dinner and pleasant evening with her. The revolt was led by a tribune named Brutus, who defeated Tarquin and swore that Rome would never again be subject to a king.
