Gross revenue is the number people like to talk about.
To me, net profit is the number that matters.
A business can look impressive from the outside and still be fragile underneath.
High revenue does not mean strong cash flow.
High revenue does not mean healthy margins.
High revenue does not mean the owner is taking home much money.
It might mean the business is expensive to operate.
More team.
More software.
More ad spend.
More fulfillment complexity.
More problems hiding behind a bigger top-line number.
That does not mean revenue does not matter.
It does.
However revenue without profit can create a dangerous illusion.
The goal is not to build a business that looks big.
The goal is to build one that works and is profitable
