In this video I discuss how productivity is ruining your life: where productivity culture came from, why we are so obsessed with productivity and hustle culture, who taught us that we are only as valuable as the things we produce? Why do we feel so guilty when we are not productive? why is our productivity always oriented around individualistic success instead of social good?
I want to talk about how productivity culture emerged as a way to serve the interests of our economic system and powerful people, and that productivity helps to mask our personal and collective trauma. I then want to explore how we can begin to decolonise our relationship to productivity and embrace new collective emancipatory forms of dreaming.
