Rania Shafiq is an Associate Member of the Institute of Physics, and will be voting in the IOP Council elections this summer. We asked her to let us know why she thinks it is important to vote, and why you should too!

Hi, my name is Rania Shafiq, I’m an IOP Associate Member and a campus ambassador at UCL where I study the BSC physics course.
Despite the unprecedented challenges of the last year, the IOP has continued in its mission to promote research and careers in physics and beyond – to polish the physicists’ toolkit as we love to say!
And so with such incredible experiences it becomes our responsibility to raise our voice and cast our votes in an institute that we regard so much, invest in so much and of course care about so much.
I didn’t get to vote last year, unfortunately, in the elections, but I’m excited to rectify that mistake this year, because it means we can have a say, a genuine and real say, in the running of an institute that can continue to hold and uphold many more positive and nurturing experiences and traditions for many more years.
And I’d encourage you to do the same. So get on board and cast your votes for the IOP’s upcoming elections!
