In this video I discuss my outlook for event photography in 2022. Taking a look at my personal experience in 2021, that of other event photographers I've talked to, and the data, I'm feeling pretty darn optimistic about it.
Starting in March of 2021, things really started to open up, both literally and figuratively, I guess. I immediately saw a boom in business at that time, with things eventually simmering down a bit before absolutely booming again in the fall. And I was not alone. It seemed like most photographers I knew were extremely busy, especially in October. People and businesses just seemed to be champing at the bit to throw an event. And the data I have really seems to back up my personal experience. In the fall I saw my channel grow at levels it never had before. Although I am proud of the content I have produced, I really don't think it gets the majority of the credit. Things really seemed to stay on course all the way up until the new year for me. I worked my butt off at the time because I assumed I would have January off. But although I didn't, I did see my channel's growth begin to slow down as expected.
So what about the current wave of you know what? Truthfully it barely seemed to have an impact. I had just one event cancel.
What about going forward? I think that we are entering a stage of the pandemic in which people just want to carry on for better or for worse.... and even though we may continue to see new waves impact us, fortunately they will come when there are fewer events going on anyway.
