Why did I leave Esty? When I announced the opening of my website shop, I got questions asking why I left. In this video I explain my views on the platform and how it has evolved over the years. When I started out, Etsy was the perfect place to sell my art. They already had a customer base and it was an easy platform to use. Over the years they started to increase fees and the platform became saturated. I started to grow my own following and community. I realized that I had my own platform (my website) to sell from and that I could take back ownership of my own sales. This relieved a lot of my stress worrying about the "visibility" of my store. This is a very personal decision and I am not saying that people shouldn't sell there. I think for me it was the right time, but for others, it can be a great platform to generate revenue. This video is in no way derogatory to Esty and expresses my own personal beliefs and experiences with the platform. I did still leave my art stands and magnets there for "cold" customer sales and for small items the fees are much less.
I do think that Etsy is a good place to start for those that don't have a large following or customer base already, those that make searchable or very niche items, and/or those that don't already have a website set up. I am so happy that i found acrylic pouring/fluid art a few years ago. It has helped me in so many ways and it just keeps getting better. This visual arts creative outlet has made me so happy. I am loving this abstract art! I hope to keep doing this for years to come! I have always been fascinated by modern and contemporary art. I love acrylic pouring because i get to experiment and really join the creative side of my brain with the scientific part! There are so many different fluid acrylic pouring techniques out there, so much more to try and have fun with.
