If you've ever looked back on a relationship and wondered...
"Why did I stay so long?"
You're not alone.
After my autism diagnosis, I realized that my relationship struggles weren't simply about people-pleasing or communication differences. They were deeply connected to years of masking, nervous system survival, interoception differences, gaslighting, and learning to trust everyone else's reality more than my own.
In this video, I explore why so many late-diagnosed autistic women remain in unhealthy relationships long after they're unhappy—not because they're weak, but because autism can shape the way we experience safety, connection, conflict, and even our own emotions.
We'll talk about:
• Why masking disconnects us from our own needs
• Why familiar relationships can feel safer than healthy ones
• How interoception makes it difficult to recognize unhappiness
• The lasting effects of gaslighting and self-doubt
• Why empathy can become a trap
• Mirroring and losing your sense of self
• Mistaking adaptation for compatibility
• The shift that finally helped me trust myself again
My hope is that if you're beginning to recognize these patterns in yourself, you'll leave this video with more compassion than shame.
❤️ If this resonated with you, I'd love to hear your experience in the comments. Your story may help another late-diagnosed autistic woman feel less alone.
