In this conversation, I discuss how to polarize training in perimenopause: true high-intensity intervals (80-85% heart rate with variable recovery to total ~18-20 minutes in-zone) and sprint intervals (≀30 seconds all-out with 2-5 minutes easy) to drive muscle quality, insulin sensitivity, and mitochondrial function. I explain why zone 2 can be β€œsoul food” but shouldn’t be your weekly backbone, how to avoid the moderate-intensity trap common in group classes, and why 2-3 quality intensity sessions beat lots of steady cardio for midlife women. This clip also covers pairing short heavy lifting (low reps, full recovery, ~25-30 minutes) with brief sprints in the same session, spacing for recovery, and practical ways to shift from sympathetic to parasympathetic - sleep first, simple breath and mobility work, and training that leaves you worked, not exhausted.
