This is quick (or maybe not so quick because its longer and more dense than the first video) follow up to last weeks video about heat treatment and stiffness of materials, especially steel.

I think some of the confusion is my fault, in trying to oversimplify the content, and the test could have been a little better, but I got a fair amount of push back on the topic, more than I was expecting.

I think going back over in a new light, and further explaining some of the areas, we can better explain this topic, and hopefully address some of the areas of confusion caused by the previous video.

At its core, the message is still the same. Heat Treatment Does not affect the stiffness of a metal or heat treatment does not affect the young's modulus of a metal.

A soring made from soft mild steel will be as sprinngy as one made from tempered spring steel. The difference is in how much force it can handle before it permanently bends.
