So when it comes to choosing who should be leading in your organization, consider placing an equal emphasis on those with visionary ideas, and those who have the unique skills for translating them into results. Without diversity in skills and experiences, those ideas can’t flourish into progress towards your mission.

Peter Gray is an evolutionary psychologist who has spent decades studying the role of play in human development. As a board member of Let Grow, a nonprofit organization dedicated to childhood independence, Gray has found that the best boards are composed of a diverse mix of talented people who are ready to do the hard work, bringing their own individual approach and skillset.
