Drinking water is actually one of the most dangerous moments in a giraffe’s life. To reach the water, giraffes must spread their legs wide apart and lower their heads, leaving them vulnerable to predators like lions. That’s why they constantly pause to scan their surroundings, listen for movement, and check for danger before taking another sip.
Their incredible hearing and eyesight help them detect even distant sounds or movement in the bush. Wind direction also plays an important role, helping them pick up scents and warning signs from predators nearby. Every movement is calculated.

A giraffe can drink up to 40 liters (10+ gallons) of water in one session, although they don’t need to drink every day because they get moisture from leaves and vegetation.
