Is it sexism? I think it has more to do with evolution.
I need to clarify a bit on this,
Humans evolved love because our children are vulnerable. Baby sharks are tough animals, as soon as they are born, they are abandoned by their mother, in fact the mother will try to eat them. But baby sharks are tough and can swim away quick and survive perfectly fine on their own. Human babies can't. If you leave a human baby alone in the jungle, it will die very quickly. So the only way for humanity to have survived was if our mothers cared for us when we were babies, and this wouldn't have been possible if our mothers didn't love us, so love was a result of natural selection.
Now, while our mothers cared for us, the father would go out and hunt for food in the wilderness, and protect his family. Now obviously today we don't live in the jungle anymore, but these instincts still survive to this day. Our mothers have maternal instinct that make them far more likely to want to stay at home and care for her children. This means that she is less likely to take on a managerial position which pays more, because a managerial position demands more than which takes away from family time. But the man would be mostly content knowing that his family was safe, and would therefore be willing to go out and care for his family even though he isn't there for his family in person. So a male is far more likely to take a managerial position because even though he has less time for his family, he is content knowing that the additional money he is making is sustaining his family.
