When Jesus says to "call no man father" in Matthew 23:9, He was not speaking literally. In the Scriptures, we see the Apostles John and Paul referring to themselves and priests as fathers (1 Corinthians 4:15 and 1 John 2:13-14).

They were not disobeying or ignoring Our Lord's commands—they clearly understood what Jesus meant and made sure their disciples and the early Church understood as well.
