Spanish PM Pedro Sanchez says a Russian and Israeli disinformation
campaign triggered the Ceuta migrant crisis. But the bigger question is
this โ what is Spanish territory doing on the African mainland at all?
Between July 30 and 31, over 72,000 migrants crossed irregularly from
Morocco into Ceuta. More than 100 people died. The rumour spreading
across social media claimed that anyone reaching Ceuta would be accepted
by Spain as a humanitarian refugee.
