Why did I spend 11 years making my own game engine when Unity, Unreal, Godot, and other engines already exist? In this video, I explain the full story behind Cave Engine, why it started, how Blender Game Engine and Logic Bricks inspired me, and why building a custom in-house engine became the right decision for my studio, Uniday Studio.
Cave Engine is a lightweight, fast, C++ game engine for creating 3D games with Python scripting and now Logic Bricks, a visual scripting system designed for people who want to make games without writing code. This video covers the real motivation behind Cave, the challenges of game engine development, the frustrations that pushed me to build my own tools, and why I believe it was worth the 11-year journey.
