This is an educational vocal coach analysis and reaction to a hauntingly beautiful pop/folk performance of Multo by Filipino band Cup of Joe. The song explores the concept of multo. In Filipino culture, multo often refers to ghosts, lingering memories, or unfinished emotions and in this performance, that feeling is intricately woven into the singers’ voices.

We break down how breathy onsets, subtle vibrato, head-to-chest voice transitions, and nuanced phrasing create a ghostly, mist-like sound that is both emotional and precise. I also compare two singers interpreting the same emotion differently, one carrying the emotional weight, the other emphasising rhythm and smoothness showing how restraint and release can create a deeply connective performance.
